ECS 197T (Tutoring) Units
All of our tutors receive units on behalf of their tutoring services. As a tutor, you get to choose the number of units (while filling out your application) you receive per quarter. You can either choose to receive 0.5, 1, 2, or 3 units every quarter.
For every unit you receive, you are expected to tutor a total of 3 hours per week. For example, if you chose to get 0.5 units, you would tutor 1.5 hours every week. If you get 2 units, then you should tutor a total of 6 hours per week.
Unless you are receiving 0.5 units, every other tutor (1, 2, 3 units) should also host a midterm/final exam review session. Review sessions are helpful for students to review the key concepts right before their exam. Moreover, hosting review sessions is different than a simple 1-1 tutoring and would get you comfortable speaking in front of a large audience. If you are worried about hosting a review session alone, then don't! We typically pair 2-3 tutors to host a review session.
If you choose to get 0.5 units, then your only requirement is to tutor for 1.5 hours per week. Hosting review sessions is completely optional (but recommended!)
What if I do not have Junior standing?
If you do not have junior standing yet and still wish to apply to be a tutor, then go ahead and fill out the application. Mention why you wish to be considered in the comments section. We do accept (in exception) freshmen and sophomores to tutor with us. Unfortunately, you will not be eligible to receive ECS197T units.
